My daughter loved it! She loved the fact she has privacy and the voice activated password featured, it is very different than her regular journal. She loves the black invisible pen and the back light. Great product.
My daughter was thrilled to receive this journal. She thought the privacy features were wonderful and could not wait to set it all up and get started recording her password and intruder alert. I thought it might get her to start writing more since it would be more fun than writing on regular paper. The first problem we had was initially opening the journal. After a few tries by both of us, I was finally able to pry open the journal and thankfully did not break it, which was a concern. We were able to record her password quickly and access the journal a few times to be sure she knew how to do it. We had her sister try to get in just to check the intruder alert and we all laughed at the alarm. My oldest liked that the intruder's voice is recorded so she would know who tried to break into her journal. So far she was excited since the journal opened without issue after the initial try. She wrote her name on the first page and wrote an answer to one of the pre-recorded prompts. She recorded a couple of her own prompts and was excited about her new journal.
The second day did not go as well. She had a hard time getting the journal to recognize her voice and was getting frustrated, but finally said her password "correctly" and gained access. When she tried using the light on the cover to read what she had written the day before, it did not show any of the "invisible" ink, which was disappointing. She tried the light in various settings to see if being in a lit or dark room made any difference, but was not able to see her words at all. She was still excited to show everyone in the family her journal and see if anyone could say her password just like her though.
By the third day, the enthusiasm was wearing off. Not only could she not consistently get into her journal, but she could not see anything in it either. To make matters worse, the journal would not close. After inspecting it, she realized that somehow the prong broke and will no longer allow the journal to close the entire way. Interestingly, the journal still thinks it is locked and she has to give her password to an open journal to gain access.
To sum it all up, the journal did not live up to her or my expectations and now she has a broken journal that she fights with just to gain access to it. This will not get her to write more as I had hoped and probably will not get used anymore since she is rather frustrated with it.
