Review 1 for Cars OIL RIG AMBUSH™ Playset
Very flimsy cheap plastic, falls apart constantly
Date:February 20, 2013
Pros: engaging activities
Cons: Low quality, Not durable, falls apart constantly
It is hard to rate a toy that is has so many great features in each level, and yet so badly made. We owned many car garage playset and this one wins the most engaging garage with multi level activities. However that being said, this is the flimsiest toy ever made.
Activities: Instead of the usual carr rolls down the ramp, this garage is one of its kind. When the first car rolls down at the end of the ramp, it triggers a button to open the side of the ramp so that the second car chasing the first one would fall off. How interesting is that. Make sure the bad guy is the second car. Too bad you are not given a "bad" car. You only get Finn.
On the side there is a crank and you can attach Finn to it, and crank him up like an elevator.
On top of the garage there is a car launcher. You put a car there. Then put another car next to the yellow oil barrel. Aim the first car to the oil barrel. When it hits the barrel, the barrel triggers the second car to flip over. Bang! How cool is that! My son likes to aim the car else where and had a laugh seeing it hit everywhere else. Be sure to keep an eye on your child so you know where the car ended.
On the middle level, there is a secret trap. With a flip, you can direct car from the ramp to the trap, and another flip to throw the car down.
There are also two extra barrels to be placed in the middle level. You can aim it at the bad guy and have the barrels roll down the ramp and hit the bad guy.
Finally on the side of the middle level, there is another launcher. A missle launcher. Take cover! Hopefully your kid doesn't loose the missle. It's small and thin.
Shifter Finn: With a click, he appearance shifts. If you ran him down the garage, when he hit the floor, he appearance shifts. We had a Mater Shifter, he for some reason doesn't shift with this playset.
Wow, sounds interesting right? This toy sure sounds cool. But wait!!!!! What happened? The whole oil rig collaspes! Looks like this bad guy's hang out is not made to last after all. (Ehem....translation= bad quality toy)
Here's the problem with this toy. Despite all the fun features, one cannot really operate this toy without getting frustrated with the constant pieces falling off. Example, the pillars do not connect well. Some pieces won't even fit in right. One of the pillar rocks back and forth after snapping into place. Rickety oil rigs. With a gentle push, the pillar falls down. The grey pieces that are attached to the ramp also do not stay connected. These pieces do not latch well. This is the part I don't get. I expect better quality since Mattel has years and years of experience making toys. If it is a knock offs, I'd understand. Also the plastics are super thin and flimsy.
Mattel: What happened to your quality control?
Parents/Grandparents: Buyer beware. You were warned.
